About Us
Washington Heights Cat Colony is a non-profit TNR (trap-neuter-return) group located in upper Manhattan . We are dedicated to humanely reducing the local feral cat population by using the TNR method; to educating the surrounding community about the benefits of TNR programs; to placing adoptable cats and kittens from cat colonies in homes where possible; and to maintaining the health and well-being of our neighborhood feral cat colonies by providing ongoing care (food, water, shelter, and medical treatment) for the feral, stray, and abandoned cats in our community.
Since the TNR of its first colony in 2005, WaHi Cats has TNR-ed
hundreds of feral cats and found homes for scores of friendly street cats and
kittens all over Washington Heights. In
2008 WaHi Cats became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and in 2009 WaHi Cats
expanded it’s volunteer and donor base so that it could begin undertaking even
larger TNR projects in the Washington Heights area. In 2010, WaHi Cats TNR-ed 120 cats, and
found homes or foster care for over a dozen friendly street cats and
kittens discovered in the course of TNR-ing local feral colonies. All of this was made possible by the
dedication of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
In 2011 so far, we have TNRed over 200 cats, and found homes for nearly 40
more "friendlies." This has been our biggest year yet, and with your
help, we hope top that in 2012!
